EA Sports has announced it will shut down all online play of its sports games this weekend for the entire season.
The news comes after a week of online play for the EA Sports UFC game.
Online play will be restricted to players with an EA account, EA Sports says, and players will only be able to connect to EA Sports’ Madden service when online.
Madden Ultimate Team will also be restricted for the entirety of the season.
In an email to fans, EA said: “The decision to shut EA Sports Madden online services down on Friday, April 17th was made to ensure we can better ensure that players have a strong online experience and can enjoy the game during the holiday season.
This was a difficult decision that we took as we want to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible, and this is one of the biggest challenges we face in our digital portfolio.
This is a tough time for us.
We want to provide our players with the best possible digital experience to ensure they have the best games and experiences.
As a result, we are limiting EA Sports Ultimate Team online to only players who have an EA Ultimate account.”
As part of its online service, EA sports will also shut down the Madden Ultimate Team game for the first three days of the weekend.
